Sharpeners for Lefthanders
The left-handed child should have a special left-handed sharpener at his disposal from the very beginning.
This is held with the right hand and the cutting blades point downwards as much as possible.
The right hand is held still and does not move with it, the left hand turns the pen in the direction of the body.
With this rotational movement “outwards”, the child can develop more strength than vice versa.
Left-handed children who do not have a left-handed sharpener and hold the pen in their left hand must make the movement inwards.
This requires more effort and is uneconomical.
Especially at the beginning, the tips break off more easily for the children, because this movement is not so fluently performed by the little hand, which is still unpracticed anyway, or they sharpen their pencils little and reluctantly.
Adapting to the right-handed sharpener is a bad solution.
These children hold the sharpener and pen like a right-hander, but turn the sharpener inwards in their left hand.
In this case, the left-handed child is again disadvantaged and sometimes even the impression arises that it is clumsier than its right-handed playmates.

KUM Deskpad Lefty
Advantages of the writing pad:
- learns a comfortable body and hand posture
- avoids smudging of the ink
- the left hand does not cover what is written and the child can see what he is writing
- avoids evasive postures, such as the hook hand
When can the writing pad be used?
- as early as possible, because even before primary school, many children have practiced a hand position by making their first attempts at writing or painting
- it also serves as an excellent aid for retrained left-handed adults
- the drawing on the desk pad visually supports the adaptation
Drawing instruments for left-handers
Rulers for left-handers are distinguished by a laterally inverted scale.
The lines are drawn from right to left.
A hidden scale is thus excluded.

Scissors for left-handers
Scissors for left-handers are constructed exactly mirror-inverted, like right-handed scissors.
If you cut with the wrong pair of scissors, you cannot see the cutting line, as it is covered by the upper cutting blade.
This leads to the fact that the incisions are difficult to make exactly and a cramped hand position occurs.
Therefore, it is particularly important for left-handers to use suitable scissors.
